Macabre competition for a dead musician’s watch

Cashing in on Chet Baker

Image from Scott Campbell

I don’t know whether I’m becoming over sensitive but one of Jazz Eff Ems latest promos is to win a Chet Baker Limited Edition watch from Oris. Now, whether you like Chet Baker or not and whether he was right or wrong to be a jazz pinup in the 50s, I find there is something weirdly exploitative, if not sinister or even macabre, in trying to cash in on a dead musician’s reputation. Thoughts on the back of a postcard please….
